Volunteerism, Service, Missions – whatever you want to call it, is an important part of the life of a Christian and involves giving back to the community. Ravensworth is connected to a number of volunteer organizations and regularly sends teams to participate in hands-on service opportunities. If you would like to volunteer or find out more information, please contact Pastor Leah. Here are few of the groups we work with:

ACCA

The Annandale Christian Community for Action is always looking for volunteers for the many facets of their ministry to the Annandale community. Opportunities include: Delivering food

  • Providing transportation for medical appointments
  • Delivering furniture
  • Providing supplies for the Child Development Center

Supporting Refugee Families through ACCA A small group of members and staff from ACCA churches are working to educate the community and train the 25-30 volunteers who will support a family that will be resettling to our local community. Contact the church office to volunteer with us.

Braddock Elementary School

We partner with the staff, students, and families to help provide for any needs they have. In 2021, we were able to supple outdoor handwashing stations while the school is under construction and students meet for class in trailers. We also take up a summer offering for school supplies, and will sponsor local students for summer camps in 2022.

Heritage Mission Center from Annandale UMC

Our friends from Annandale UMC host a free food distribution site. No documents are required to access food and vaccination services. We are thrilled to support our community in this way. Keep up with the latest needs and how to volunteer through our weekly communications.

Habitat for Humanity

Ravensworth has a long history (over two decades!) of involvement with Habitat for Humanity.  Mission teams have traveled to North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and right here in Virginia to build and renovate homes for those who need it most.  We are a covenant member of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia.

Rebuilding Together

An outreach program of ACCA, Rebuilding Together brings together volunteers from area churches to rehabilitate the homes of needy residents who otherwise would not be able to afford such construction. RBC volunteers participate every April in a Rebuilding Together project in Fairfax County.

CROP WALK

Each October, RBC participates in the CROP Walk , a walk to raise awareness about and funds to combat hunger in the United States and abroad. Of the money raised at the Walks, which are sponsored by Church World Service, 25% comes back to the local community. ACCA, a ministry near and dear to us at Ravensworth, is a major recipient of this money in the Annandale area.

The Shepherd’s Center

Ravensworth members were instrumental in starting the Shepherd’s Center of Annandale-Springfield.  The Shepherd’s Center is an interfaith organization whose mission is to assist older persons in living independently and to offer programs which supply opportunities for enrichment, learning and socialization.
