New Orleans, Flint, Ferguson, and Baltimore are Connected

This article in The Washington Post (link below) caught my attention the other day. It details the way in which many of our recent disasters and national conflicts, from Katrina to Flint, Ferguson, and Baltimore are all related: they center around forgotten communities, “throwaway cities” that as a nation we have tried our best to ignore. These places are holes in our seemingly prosperous society, impoverished places that have not just been forgotten, but actively left behind. We tend to think of each as an isolated event, but they are connected because they are flash points that expose an underlying racist and classist sickness in America.
