On July 18, 2015, friends and family gathered at Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C., to pay honor to the life and legacy of James M. Dunn (1932-2015), who led the Baptist Joint Committee from 1981-1999. Speakers at the service included Knollwood pastor Bob Setzer, BJC Executive Director Brent Walker and the Rev. Dr. Bill J. Leonard. Also during the service, former BJC General Counsel Melissa Rogers — who now serves as the Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships — read letters from President Barack Obama and President Jimmy Carter on the passing of James Dunn. Whether or not you knew Dr. Dunn personally, there is great wisdom and love in this powerful service.
