Now that marriage equality is officially the law of the land–where do we go from here? Clearly, though it is worth taking a moment (or several) to celebrate how far we have come, justice is not yet fully accomplished. And though those of us who are welcoming and affirming Christians should rightly celebrate greater LGBTQ equality, we also have a special duty to keep lines of communication open to those Christians left behind. Love goes both ways, and it can work on the hardest of hearts. Especially those hearts (and I personally believe there are a lot of these) that want to change but don’t know how.
This article from Sojourners seems like a good place to start. As it points out–we don’t even need to agree about marriage to get together on these. We just have to agree that abuse, bullying, and violence are not part of God’s plan. So–Thank God, and all those tireless prophets, and all those activists on the front lines for justice, and everyone who suffered to drag us this far. Now, let’s get started.
