Community for Everyone

This is a success story of a church that listened to its community: Bon Air Baptist Church and the Richmond Autism Integration Network managed to partner together to provide a space where families living with autism spectrum disorder can find deeper acceptance and community.  But within the success story of Bon Air Baptist, there is a cautionary tale.  So many parents of children with special needs are NOT finding acceptance at church–just the opposite, it seems.

This quote from the article should sum up our position:

“If you look all through the Bible, people with special needs are close to God’s heart,” Davis says. “It’s crucial that the church include them, not only because it’s what God wants, but because they can learn so much from folks with special needs that will enhance their experience of God and the church.”
