Polaris is an organization that fights against human trafficking–shockingly prevalent in the United States. During Pride month, they are raising funds specifically to help at-risk LGBTQ youth, a demographic that is especially vulnerable. They need your help. Here’s their call to action:
LGBTQ youth are slipping through the cracks. Thrown out by their families, these kids are routinely failed by the service providers that are meant to protect them — but don’t know how.
Now, the Senate has failed to reauthorize the Runaway and Homeless Youth and Trafficking Prevention Act, which would have renewed funding for homeless youth shelters and curbed discrimination against LGBTQ homeless youth seeking services. Without it, kids are left on the street, vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking.
We’re honoring Pride month by working to open doors to services for LGBTQ homeless kids. We need your help to build the safety net. Please give now.
You’ll help someone like Derek. He’s a young gay man who had been trading sex for a place to sleep since he was a teenager. He wanted to get out and start over, so he called the National Human Trafficking Hotline operated by Polaris.
Our call specialists knew that Derek was at risk of being trafficked. They reached out to several organizations, but Derek didn’t meet their service requirements. We couldn’t locate a shelter where Derek would feel safe.
I’m asking you to make a gift today so that people like Derek will have somewhere to turn when they’re in crisis. Please join our Pride Campaign with a gift to support our work today so we can raise $40,000 by June 30th.
No child should have to sell sex for a place to sleep,
